Ilford
A design-led loft conversion in Ilford, focused on unlocking the potential of underused volume within the pitched roof of a typical suburban home. The project explores how the seemingly residual “dead space” above the upper floor can be transformed into a bright and meaningful addition to the living environment.
By carefully shaping the new layout within the existing roofline, the proposal creates a spacious and functional room, ideal for use as a bedroom, home office, or studio. The design is guided by the changing ceiling heights and angles, using them to define zones and bring character to the space. Rooflights and strategically placed windows introduce natural light, while preserving privacy and thermal comfort.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful loft conversions can add significant spatial value — not only in square metres, but also in the quality, atmosphere, and usability of the home.
