A design-led ground floor reconfiguration of a detached family home in Northwood, this project explores how subtle spatial changes can significantly enhance the way a home functions and feels. The existing layout lacked flow, natural light, and a clear relationship between key living spaces. Our goal was to create a more coherent, open, and responsive plan that would better reflect the client’s lifestyle and future needs.

We began with a detailed study of the existing structure and circulation patterns, then developed a series of design options, each proposing a different spatial arrangement to reshape the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The client was closely involved in evaluating each scenario, focusing on atmosphere, light, visual connection, and movement.

The selected scheme introduces a strong central axis, improved views toward the garden, and clearer zoning of social and private areas. Openings in structural walls were introduced to enable visual connectivity between spaces while still allowing for moments of enclosure. A reimagined kitchen layout forms the heart of the plan, supported by adjacent dining and living zones that are flooded with natural light and offer flexible use throughout the day.

This reconfiguration is not only about practicality — it’s also about elevating the everyday experience of being at home. By reconsidering proportion, light, and movement, the design brings a renewed sense of calm, openness, and spatial harmony to the ground floor.
